I believe the dictionary defines the Playdate as a “little yellow game console with a crank."
Let's break it down:
Anyway, it plays games! Cool games made by cool people!
Here are some of my favorites (excluding Mars After Midnight):
Voidblazers is a really fun and surprisingly difficult space shooter with a fun story. I enjoyed the interactions between all of the characters so much that I almost found myself looking forward to them more than the shooting segments, which I do not say to knock the levels at all. They are very well designed and the controls feel great. I just love the characters.
I just think this game was awesome. It's stylish as hell, has a cool story, and is really fun to play. Like a super distilled verison of NBA Jam. I really wish it had multiplayer.
Summit is a difficult, Celeste-inspired platformer, that shines through its precise and thoughtful layering of mechanics. By the end of the game you'll be stringing together movements you wouldn't have believed you were capable of when you started.
A truly delightful love letter to Link's Awakening made in Pulp, Playdate's browser based game studio. Whether or not you have nostalgia for Link's first Game Boy outing, Resonant Tale is jam packed with secrets to find and quirky characters that are pretty much guaranteed to make you smile.
